Recent Trends of Conspiracism in Croatia - A Survey Results
Published Thursday 5 September 2024 at 12:28
This report represents an integral part of research activities conducted within the project Adria Digital Media Observatory, financed by the Digital Europe Program. It also represents the continuation of the previous research efforts in the domain of identification of conspiracy theories in Croatia, their precursors and correlates, which were initiated and conducted within the interdisciplinary project Pro-fact. In that sense it is closely related to the Pro-fact’s report on the prevalence, structure and trends of conspiratorial beliefs (Blanuša, Tonković & Vranić, 2022). While Pro-fact had a strong focus on COVID-19, and the analysis of citizens with different levels of susceptibility towards COVID-19 conspiracy theories, the study presented in this report deals with a broader set of conspiracy theories present within Croatian citizens, with the emphasis on their digital ecosystem. Apart from this core topic, the present report includes comparison of the prevalence of conspiracy theories identified within the Pro-fact report, with their prevalence in 2024, two years later.
In sum, this report focuses on the following topics on conspiracy
theories among Croatian citizens:
- Beliefs in global and local (Croatian) conspiracy theories - comparison of trends from 2022 to 2024
- Recent (viral) conspiracy theories
